About the "naturalness " of semantic categories — From categories of "natural objects" to lexical categories This paper examines the notion of naturality developed in the framework of the theory of natural categories and the natural process of categorization. We first analyze the seminal work of Rosch on focal colors as instances of natural categories. We then track the extension of the notion of natural categories to natural objects, from natural categories to artefacts and to any object categorized on the basis of typicality. Finaly we point to the consequences of such a concept on cognitive linguistics based on the naturalization of lexical semantic categories.
